Good morning on this Good Friday of Resurrection Weekend. Rather than continue with our normal schedule of Bible reading today, I challenge each of us to read the Gospel - the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord. 1. Matthew 27 - 28 2. Mark 15 - 16 3. Luke 23 - 24 4. John 18 - 20 The Gospel defined by the Apostle Paul and the sermons recorded in Acts, is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. On this hangs EVERYTHING. And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. . . . If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. Because Christ is risen, mercy is extended, grace is applied, sins are forgiven, stains are washed away, we are filled — and this calls for CELEBRATION. “Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing.” Read, experience the washing of the water by the Word, and rejoice at the transforming power of the Gospel applied!
Good morning! Bible reading for today —- —- II Kings 13 - 15 —- Enjoy a blessed day!
Bible reading for this Wednesday, April 17, 2019 — — II Kings 10 - 12 — “The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”
The word of God tells us what we need, when we need it, if we allow it to do so. In a world troubled by unrest, chaos, wickedness, unholiness and unrighteousness, we hear the words of the Apostle Paul in great clarity. “We are troubled on every side, . . . We are perplexed, . . . Persecuted, . . . Cast down” Enter Psalm 112:7 “He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.” The reason they were “not distressed, . . . Not in despair, . . . Not forsaken, . . . Not destroyed” is because they were not afraid; and they were not afraid because they trusted in the Lord. If we desire peace in a storm, stability in the chaos of our present world, we must trust in the Lord, set your affectations on things above, fix your heart on Him who became poor so we could be rich, who died that we might live and who was rejected so we could be accepted.
